SEND (Special Education Needs & Disabilities)
Welcome to the Meon Infant School Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) information report.
At Meon Infant School we value each and every one of our parents and pupils. We strive hard to ensure that :-
. your child has access to a wide and balanced curriculum which is suited to
his/her own individual educational needs.
. your child can learn and make progress as an individual taking into account
his/her own personal learning styles, strengths or difficulties
. your child is assessed using the appropriate assessment tools and guidelines
. your child has equal access to resources, provision and interventions to support
his/her learning and maintain positive progress.
- you are fully involved with your child's education.
Special educational provision is provision that is additional to or different from that made generally available for others of the same age. This means it is provision that goes beyond the differentiated approaches and learning arrangements normally provided for in the classroom as part of high quality, personalised teaching. It may take the form of additional support from within a setting or require involvement of specialist staff or support services.
The following document is written to help you as parents understand the additional special educational provision which Meon Infant School has on offer for your child if he/she requires it. It gives an outline of our beliefs and explains the different types of special education needs your child may encounter on his or her learning journey. It outlines the levels of support which are on offer, the different types of intervention available and also other people who can help to support your child should the need arise. There is also a list of questions often asked by parents.
There is a link with the Portsmouth City Council 'Local Offer', which outlines an even wider range of support available beyond the school support system.
A full version of the Meon Information Report can be found within the 'About my School' - 'Policies' section. The link below is a summarised, user friendly version for your convenience. This Powerpoint version is a working document and you as parents are welcome to contribute to it's content at any time throughout the year.
If you would like to contribute, have a chat or would like to receive a paper copy of the 'Meon Information Report' please come in and see Sue Brown who is the Special Educational Needs Manager. She is there to answer any questions or concerns you may have and welcomes you in to talk and find out more about how we can give additional support to your child should the need ever arise.
Also come in and see her if you feel you would like to be involved in the next annual review of the 'Meon Information Report'. She would value your views and contributions.
